Every child should experience life on a farm. Your group can visit with farm animals, try some farm chores and learn all about life on the farm when they participate in the farm kids program at the New Hampshire Farm Museum. This program is great for camp, scout and youth groups and takes approximately 3 hours including time for lunch. Children will enjoy the following activities:
Summer 2008 Programs for Children ARCHAEOLOGY FIELD SCHOOL FOR KIDS July 7th-11th 9 am- 3 pm Open to students ages 12 years through high school. This is an intensive five-day field school in historic archaeology for young historians and budding archaeologists. Young people enrolled in the field school will help us uncover the story of the early 19th-century tavern at the historic Jones Farm. Students will learn archaeological field methods and explore history, as they become an archaeologist for the week. They will explore the history of the Tavern as they excavate,, learn to identify and process artifacts, and record their findings in their field journals. Students will also search through primary documents and explore the field of archaeology through films, mapping and other hands-on activities. This program is directed by Dr. Neill De Paoli, Historic Archaeologist and Adjunct Professor of History at Southern Maine Community College. Tuition: $170 museum members, $ 185 non-members RURAL ARTS & ADVENTURES: ART & NATURE ON THE FARM July 7-11th 9 am-3 pm Open to children ages 8-11 years. Children will keep a nature journal for the week as they learn about trees, make leaf prints, collect and press flowers, make baskets, and build fairy houses. They can draw and paint patterns from nature, make seed and bark mosaics, collect herbs and explore the Jones woods. We will play farm games and enjoy farm animals & activities throughout the week. On Friday at 2:15 pm families are invited to stop in at the Plummer Homestead for a look at the camper’s creative works. Tuition: $150 museum members, $165 non-members RURAL ARTS & ADVENTURES: ART & GARDEN July 14-18th 9 am-3 pm Open to children ages 8-11 years. This week we will focus on art, garden and the lifecycles of the farm. Children can collect the eggs, feed the pigs, make bread and butter, explore the barns, plant seeds, dye wool with herbs and harvest in the garden. They will learn about honeybees and insects, and tracking and wild animals from our hikes in the woods. They will keep a farm journal, make veggie and fruit prints, draw farm animals and learn to weave. We will play farm games and enjoy farm animals & activities throughout the week. We will also be creating props, scenery and a stage for our puppet show. They will also learn about lifecycles of the farm, feed the animals, explore the barns and keep a farm journal. We will play farm games and enjoy farm animals & activities throughout the week. On Friday at 2:15 pm families are invited to stop in at the Plummer Homestead for a puppet show put on by the children. Tuition: $150 museum members, $165 non-members New Hampshire Farm Museum Summer Program REGISTRATION & INFORMATION ABOUT OUR SUMMER PROGRAMS The New Hampshire Farm Museum is a non-profit educational institution dedicated to preserving, promoting and interpreting New Hampshire’s rural life and agricultural heritage. The New Hampshire Farm Museum is located on Rte. 125 in Milton, NH just a 20-25 minute drive north of Dover and about 25 minutes east of Wolfeboro. All programs are offered Monday-Friday 9 am- 3 pm and are based at the Museum’s Plummer Homestead. All our programs are directed by professional educators and have limited enrollment. Aftercare from 3 –5 pm can be arranged at additional cost. ABOUT THE INSTRUCTORS Crystal Speck-Tritter will conduct the sessions on Art & Nature, Art & Garden and Puppets on the Farm. She has taught art in local elementary schools and currently works as an art teacher at Portsmouth High School. She has a BFA in Illustration from Otis College of Art and Design and a MAT in Art Education from the University of New Hampshire. She has worked as a professional artist for Walt Disney as well as other companies. Crystal is a native New Hampshire resident and has spent many summers on the farm. She loves nature and gardening. Crystal spends her free time writing and drawing and playing with her two young children. Dr. Neill De Paoli will direct the Archaeology Field School for Kids. He has worked as an historical archaeologist throughout New England for the past 30 years and is an Adjunct Professor at Southern Maine Community College and NH Institute of Art. He has conducted many archaeology programs in the public schools. He has an MA in Anthropology from Brown University and a PhD in History from the University of New Hampshire. Cancellations made prior to 3 weeks before each program start date will receive a 50% refund. No refunds can be given after that time.
