May 8 Butter & Cheese Workshop 10 am- 1 pm Plummer Homestead Learn to make your own butter and cheese with our Farm Museum expert Carolyn Chase. We will begin with butter and buttermilk and then learn to make some soft cheeses. We will make a ricotta cheese using cow’s milk and then use goat’s milk to make a soft goat cheese with herbs. Then using some of the dairy products we’ ve made we will make a delicious lunch to eat together. Pre-registration required. Call 603-652-7840 or email: info@farmmuseum.org Program fee: $30./$25 Museum members May 22nd Milton Magical History Tour 10 am- 3 pm The New Hampshire Farm Museum participates in the town of Milton’s magical history tour. Buy one inexpensive ticket at the NH Farm Museum and hop on the bus to tour Milton’s historic sites including the Milton Town House, the Plummer’s Ridge School House, New Hampshire Farm Museum, The Milton Mills Free Library, and the Milton Historical Society. Refreshments and tours will be offered at many of the sites. $5 adult, $1 child includes admission to the NH Farm Museum and all historical sites. May 29th Spring Farm Day Sheep shearing, garden activities, farm animal tours, spinning and weaving demonstrations and dance around the Maypole. Meet the piglets from the Merrimac County 4-H swine club! June 19 New Hampshire Dairy Day 10- 4 Meet a cow and a dairy goat, churn cream to make butter, learn to make a fresh soft cheese in the Farm Kitchen, take a farmhouse tour and try the Dairy Day barn hunt. Hop on a tractor Hayride. Free NH Ice Cream served 12 noon-3 pm! June 26 New Hampshire Farm Museum Annual Meeting June 27th Farmington Day~ Farmington residents get in free w/ ID June 28-July 2nd Colonial Adventures on the Farm Day Camp for children 7-11 years Kids explore farm life in colonial times during this week-long program. Each child takes on the role of a colonial farm child and learns to roleplay in period clothing. Children will enjoy cooking over the open fire, caring for the farm animals, churning butter, learning to weave, playing colonial games and much more. 9 am~3 pm Held at the Museum’s Plummer Homestead. Pre-registration required: $165/ $150 members. July 1st Stories on the Farm Begins 10-11:15 am every Thursday in July & August Join us for a great children’s story in the Big Yellow Barn followed by a related hands on activity and farm animal tour. Recommended for children ages 3-10 years. July 4 The Fourth on the Farm 12 - 4 pm Join us for an Old-fashioned Independence Day with free strawberry shortcake. Bob Kilham plays the banjo and performs songs from the Civil War. Visitors can play croquet on the lawn, enjoy strawberry shortcake, special tour of the historic farmhouse with a costumed roleplayer, and visit farm animals. July 5-July 9 Farm Kids Day Camp for children 6- 8 years 9 am- 3 pm Every day we’ll begin with a farm story. Then we’ll head outside to collect the eggs, work in the garden, feed the pigs or walk the goats. We will make farm related crafts and work on a farm animal puppet show. Held at the Museum’s Plummer Homestead. Pre-registration required. July 10 & 11 Children’s Days on the Farm The most fun kids can have on a farm. Farm games, farm animals, hayrides, kids blueberry pie eating contest, fairy houses and children’s craft and garden activities. July 25th Wakefield Day~ Wakefield residents get in free w/ ID July 26-30th Victorian Arts & Nature Day Camp for children 8-12 years This week we explore rural life in the 19th-century. We will make Victorian nature crafts, explore woods and gardens, care for our farm animals, play Victorian games and learn about farm life. Each child takes on the role of a 19th-century child and learns to roleplay in period clothing. 9 am-3 pm Held at the Museum’s Plummer Homestead. Pre-registration required: $165/ $150 July 31st Stagecoach & Tavern Day Our historic farmhouse served as a tavern and stagecoach stop for half a century. Experience tavern life in the 1830s on tours with costumed roleplayers and enjoy a taste of period refreshments offered to travelers of the time. Try your hand at tavern games, learn to write with a quill pen, learn all about tavern drinks, enjoy period music and horse-drawn wagon rides. August 9-13th Farm Crafts & Trades Day camp for children ages 7-11 years We will learn all about the farm and related trades. We will work with wood and learn about using hand tools to make a wooden toy. We will make tin lanterns, learn to weave and work in the barn and garden. We will explore the woods, hike to the river, learn about trees and build a fort. 9 am~3 pm Held at the Museum’s Plummer Homestead. Pre-registration required: $165/ $150 members. August 21 & 22 Old Time Farm Days/Farm Museum 40th anniversary celebration 10 am-4 pm Artisans demonstrate traditional crafts and old time farm skills, horse-drawn hay rides, farmhouse tours, farm animals, music and much more. August 29 Rochester Day~ Rochester residents get in free w/ID Sept. 18 Fall Hike to the Jones River 1pm Join us for a fall hike out through the Farm Museum trails into the NH Forest Society’s Jones Forest to see the beautiful Jones River. This is about a three-mile loop hike with some interesting features along the way. Plan on 2 &1/2 hours. Steady rain cancels. $5 adult, children & museum members no charge. September 26 Milton Day~ Milton residents get in free w/ID October 2 Harvest Day 10 am-4 pm Horse-drawn hayrides, harvest activities and Fall fun. Press apples to make cider, try a Johnny cake, enjoy some pumpkin pie and help with the harvest. Kids can make a candle, paint a gourd, and play pumpkin games. October 3 The Great NH Pie Festival 12 noon – 4pm Bakers and bakeries from all over New Hampshire serve up their best pie for you to taste. Enjoy all you can eat of all sorts of pie and vote on your favorite at this benefit event. Bring a pie to enter in our pie baking contest and win a prize. Enjoy music, hayrides, the kids apple pie eating contest, visiting the historic farmhouse and meeting the farm animals. $10 adult, $5 child Nov. 20 Over the River & Thru the Woods Thanksgiving Program 10-3 Take a horse-drawn hayride through the woods to Grandmother’s farmhouse and enjoy some pumpkin pie. Hear the stories of how Thanksgiving was celebrated through the centuries on a special farmhouse tour. $10 adult, $5 child, Members $6/$3 Nov. 21 Annual NH Wine & Cheese Tasting at the Plummer Homestead for Members & Guests Join us for this special evening for members and their guests to taste New Hampshire’s great wines and cheeses. Learn about New Hampshire wines, taste some delicious cheese and bid on some great silent auction items. $10 per person December 11 Christmas on the Farm 10 am – 3 pm Tour the historic Jones Farmhouse and enjoy a Victorian Christmas. Enjoy a sleigh or wagon ride through the fields. Make a Christmas candle to take home, roast chestnuts over an open fire, and partake of gingerbread and hot cider. $10 adult, $5 child, members $6/$3 |
